MEMORIES DOWN THE LANE! AN ARTICLE FOR MY SCHOOL MAGAZINE ON THE OCCASION OF GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Walking down the memory lane takes me to the corridors of our school. On getting down from the school bus, I walked through it to my classroom with my backpack and lunch bag. The trees in breeze greeted us.    The well lit, ventilated, clean classrooms with green color windows and doors are evergreen in my thoughts. As the first bell goes, we gathered for the assembly. The assembly was not just a prayer ritual! Each day was special. Monday to Thursday we assembled class wise and on Fridays house wise. We had national flag or school flag hoisting and salutation, Thought for the day, News for the week, quiz etc. After the assembly, walking back to classes through main stairs resembled diverging zipper as boys and girls climbed through the bifurcating stairs. Two or three of us shared a bench and desk depending upon the size. The teachers along with our academics taught us life lessons which have taken us to these heights. Each time when we fell down in the play ground, it instil...

A small tribute to mommammai!

Image
A lady to be admired for teaching us life lessons! The real success in one's life is not in reaching heights in profession, gaining name and fame in society but in leading a successful family life, standing with spouse in tough times and rearing children to stand on their own earning and getting them into hands of a life partner at right time and leaving behind traces of fondful memories in everyone known. No doubt mommammai has led a very successful life, though her life since childhood had  thorns and obstacles, her perseverance and courage taught her the art of sensing the smell of roses amidst the thorns. May be she has genetically instilled into us her managerial characteristics and many more good qualities making all of us to be with head up in this competitive world!! Gifted are our kids having been with her blessed presence!!!

Theni brothers

Image
I thought of posting this on the day of Varun's birthday but unfortunately I couldn't do it.  Theni brothers, varun and saran, both of them are still mocked especially by VK and both would agree that it's all for fun and not intentional to taunt them!  I could remember many events around varun but hardly a few with regards to saran! I don't know how much varun would remember. Once when you came to Tiruchendur you loved eating refrigerated water melons. As the fridge at our home was at fault, you went to our neighbour and asked to keep your share in their fridge and said that you would come back and get it after they are chilled! Also you loved wearing perippa's wrist watch, so we got a white with purple electronic watch from Bangalore! At Rathinam mama house, you call him "Mill mama" and argue with him that Theni is bigger and better than Madurai! We loved enjoying your justifications and paybacks.  Also once when Mohandas chithappa took all of us to exhi...

Solar eclipse Dec 26 2019

Image
Solar eclipse Dec 26 2019  Today had an opportunity to witness a part of annular solar eclipse. As it was around 9:00 am the sky was growing dark just like in dusk. I didn't have polarized sunglasses but had chance to see with X ray films but yesterday video cautioned me not to do so.. But out of curiosity, as i was walking towards my superior's office ( where i made a purpose visit to go out in sun ), i looked into a puddle of water stagnant on the floor to see sun's reflection in it. Wow! Lifetime feast! Sun in the shape of a crescent!!But the same fear made me to take off my eyes from it. Then i went and took a out patient slip used in dot matrix printer with holes on sides and when I made the sun shadow to fall through the holes on sides another spectacular site, an array of semilunar sun!! A patient who passed by me was also able to appreciate ! If i remember well i think we had an experience some years back on a Diwali day, when appa tried to show me and Senthil with ...

Counting days for Diwali!!

Image
Diwali is a special festival for most of us since childhood. As we get new calendars every year the first thing we used to do is checking when is Diwali and start counting days for Diwali. That too after Pooja holidays we would be excited as the final countdown starts! Most of our Diwali purchases would have been over during Pooja holidays. We used to go to Madurai by bus the day before the eve of diwali. As bus enters Madurai  the aura of diwali enthrals us! The newly mushroomed shops for dresses and crackers fascinate us. As we enter the Ayyamma home our diwali feast (a chick) welcomes us pecking up its last feast😋. The aroma of home made murukku and athirasam stimulate our taste buds and fills our stomach as and when we pass by the containers with Diwali snacks. The  fireworks and gift boxes from perimma would be equally divided amongst us! The next day morning we await the arrival of Sujit and sahana  looking at the clock fiftieth time in half an hour. On the D...
